President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appealed for Chinese investments to help finish the Velaana International development project as well as the Thilafushi port project.
He made this appeal at the Invest Maldives Forum that kicked off at the Fuzhou Strait International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Fuzhou, China.
The president has asked China to increase its involvement in other countries’ infrastructure development starting in 2013, through the investing Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) or the Silk Road Initiative, which he has identified as two of the most important development projects of this government.
The President said the government is keen to partner on these projects under a framework consistent with the Belt and Road Initiative. He said Maldives has received unprecedented assistance under the Belt and Road Initiative initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
With the establishment of formal, political relations between China and Maldives in 1972, China has been one of the closest, and most friendly countries in Maldives development to date.
More than 150 countries have participated in China's Belt and Road Initiative, which adds more than $100 billion to the BRI project.
