Major General Retired Wais Waheed has been appointed as the Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Center NCTC.
Wais replaces former DG Brigadier General Retired Zakaria Moosa. Zakaria retired from the armed services in 2021 after 37 years of service.
Zakaria was dismissed from the post of DG of NTCT when the new government came into power on the 17th of November.
The new DG of NCTC Wais retired from the Armed Services on the 12th of this month after 34 years of service in the MNDF.
When he retired from MNDF, Wais had been taking on multiple responsibilities in the armed forces including the commandment of the Marine Corps, Commanding Officer of Maldives National Cadet Corp, Commanding Officer of the College of Defense and Security Studies as well as the Chairman of MNDF Welfare Company CIVEC.
NCTC is the national lead agency for coordinating counter-terrorism and counter-violent extremism efforts. NCTC acts as the primary agency for integrating and analyzing all intelligence about terrorism and violent extremism acquired by all partner agencies and organizations.
