The Correctional Service said that there is no legal obstacle to former President Abdullah Yameen becoming an ordinary member of a party.
President Yameen signed the National Front (PNF) on Sunday.
President Yameen who was serving an 11-year prison sentence in the MMPRC scam, was transferred to house arrest on the 1st of last month. He then transferred Yameen to village custody early on the night of the 28th of that month.
The corrections department is investigating the case of President Yameen's visit to the PNC office. The PNF office is also being investigated and action will be taken if necessary, the corrections said.
However, Corrections spokesperson Aminath Yusreen Ahmed told The Press that under Article 64 of the Prisons and Parole Act, there is no obstacle for a prisoner to become an ordinary member of a party.
Yusreen said the case of President Yameen's participation in political activities is being investigated.
