Maldives Immigration says it will be conducting Immigration document checks and random inspections as part of its new enforcement priorities to address the issue of undocumented migrants in the country.

Immigration said that during these operations its officers will check the visa documents and identity cards of migrants to see whether they are staying in the Maldives illegally.

It said that the purpose of these operations was to reduce the number of undocumented migrants in the country and to ensure that expatriates working in the country are within the laws of the country.

Immigration said that these operations are also seeking to take affirmative action against illegal migrants with the help of employees, government agencies, foreign embassies, and members of the public.

It further said that swift actions will be taken against those who undermine the integrity of Immigration law.

The Immigration did not reveal when it would begin the operations against illegal migrants.
