Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer says the Maldives welcomes the news of an agreement on a humanitarian pause in Gaza.
His comments came as Qatar announced the success of its joint mediation efforts undertaken with Egypt, and the United States between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas resulting in an agreement for a humanitarian pause. Qatar also said that the time of the pause will be announced within the next 24 hours and would initially last four days subject to extension.
In a post on X, Minister Zameer said that the Maldives welcomes a humanitarian pause in Gaza.
Minister Zameer went on to commend the mediation initiatives led by Qatar and joined by other countries, at this difficult juncture.
He then reiterated Maldivian calls for a complete ceasefire to hostilities in Gaza.
The Qatari efforts resulted in a successful mediation more than a month after Israel began its bloodiest military campaign in Gaza and occupied Palestinian territories.
More than 14,000 people have been killed in Gaza in the Israeli campaign as it targeted hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and residential buildings indiscriminately.
