The Planning Ministry has suspended the allocation of 4,000 flats under the government's Gedhoruveriya Housing scheme following an order by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC ordered the allocation of flats to be suspended yesterday.

The Planning Ministry said the ACC had asked the government not to hand over the flats to its recipients under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme.

Following the ACC's order, the ministry said the handover of the flats under the scheme has been suspended until further notice.

The Outlet has come to know that the commission observed issues such as points declaring ineligible beneficiaries as eligible for flats under the "landlord" scheme and points being awarded to some beneficiaries contrary to the prescribed procedure for evaluation of forms.

The commission has also ordered the suspension of all activities related to the allocation of flats until further notice.

Many people have expressed concern and protested against the provisional list of 4,000 flats under construction in Hulhumale. The ministry has received more than 7,000 letters of complaint. After considering the complaints, the permanent list of flats was released yesterday.
