The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has ordered the government to stop all the allocation of 4,000 flats under the landlord scheme.

This outlet has come to know that the commission observed issues such as points declaring ineligible beneficiaries as eligible for flats under the "landlord" scheme and points being awarded to some beneficiaries contrary to the prescribed procedure for the evaluation of forms.

The commission has also ordered the suspension of all activities related to the allocation of flats until further notice.

The Housing Ministry has released the permanent list of recipients of 4,000 flats under construction in Hulhumale.

In yesterday's announcement, the Ministry set the monthly payments for the flats. It said that for three-room flats the rent has been set to MVR 7000 and that the recipients have to pay an additional MVR 1,000 as a maintenance fee. This would take the monthly payments for three-room flats to MVR 8000.

As for two-room flats, the Ministry set the monthly rent at MVR 5,000 and an additional MVR 1000 for maintenance taking the total monthly payment to MVR 6,000.

The Ministry said that flat recipients must start paying the monthly payment three months after signing the flat agreement and that they have to pay for 300 months (25 years).
