President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says his government has made plans to build a media village in the Greater Male' Area.
He said this in his remarks made at his meeting with members of the Press last night.
At the meeting, Muizzu listened to the concerns of the media and ideas from the members of the media on how to further cultivate and develop the field.
One of the main concerns the members of the media highlighted was having to lease office spaces with high rents to operate media outlets.
In response to this particular concern, Muizzu said that it is highly concerning to have the media rent office spaces from different locations but that it was an issue that cannot be solved overnight.
He said that this would take planning and the new government plans to build a media village in the capital city.
Muizzu also said that to increase the number of educated people in the field, the government would facilitate free scholarships for the field of journalism every year.
The President-elect said that he had promised to set aside an amount from the state budget for the media but his transitional office was unable to include this in next year's budget. However, he said that the incoming government would appeal to the Parliamentarians to include the funds for the media in the budget before they approve it.
Muizzu said that his government would have nothing to hide and that a person who is working to serve the people would have nothing to hide.
