The new government has indicated that it would take measures if housing flats have been given to recipients who do not meet the criteria.
This comes as the issue of the allocation of 4,000 housing units under the first phase of the Gedhoruveriya Housing Scheme came under heavy scrutiny as many expressed concerns about the allocations.
Last Saturday the Housing Ministry published the final list of flat recipients and said that this list includes those who would receive the 4,000 flats already built by the government.
The Ministry said in a statement that the 4,000 recipients include those who received above 76 marks in the final list for three-room apartments and those who received above 73 marks for two-room apartments.
But since then the Anti-Corruption Commission ACC has ordered the Ministry to halt all flat allocation works till it concludes an investigation into the matter.
Speaking on the matter today, transitional Spokesperson Mohamed Firuzul said that the office of the President-elect has received numerous complaints about the issue. He said that most of these complaints are about mark allocation and the overall work on how the permanent list was compiled.
Firuzul said that President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu implored the outgoing government not to rush into issuing flats and to handover the work to the incoming government.
He repeated that the government of President-elect Muizzu would not take back any property documents issued to the people by the current government.
However, Firuzul said that it would be unjust not to do anything if guidelines and requirements are not followed when issuing housing properties and that there are chances that the incoming government would take action against those who received flats against the guidelines set. He added that the government would not be taking action while having any political intent.
