The Rebroadcasting Rules have been amended to allow those who rebroadcast TV channels for private purposes or in households to watch the channels without obtaining a license issued by the Broadcasting Commission.
The Broadcasting Commission published the amendment in the Gazette two days ago.
Previously, broadcasting services would be provided upon receipt of a rebroadcasting license issued by the Broadcasting Commission in accordance with the prescribed rules. However, with the amendment to the rules, rebroadcasters for their own purposes will not have to obtain a license from the Commission.
The amendment defines private use as the use of the service by households.
At the same time, the amendment adds a requirement to the list of requirements for applicants for a rebroadcasting license. The applicant for the rebroadcasting license must not be a broadcasting service provider or cooperative society.
