President-elected Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that his government would form a separate Ministry for the Construction Industry.
He made the announcement while speaking at a ceremony hosted by the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MACI) last night.
Muizzu said that the construction industry is the second biggest industry in the Maldives and that the previous administrations have always slotted the industry with another industry.
He said that there are other ways to help the construction industry and that one such way is to form a dedicated Ministry for the industry.
Muizzu explained that forming a dedicated Ministry for the industry would help the government prioritize the needs of the industry and efficiently provide the assistance required for the sector.
Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom had a construction Ministry under his rule.
While Muizzu has said that he would form a Ministry just for the Construction Industry, he had said before that he would form a Ministry to over see the councils.
