Police say they have collected evidence from their raid of the office of the Football Association of the Maldives FAM that could help their investigation.
Earlier this week, Police raided the FAM office by implementing a court order as per the request of the Prosecutor General's Office to collect evidence that might assist in the corruption investigation against FAM.
Police said in an update today that they had confiscated some items from the FAM office and that they were now analyzing the evidence collected.
While the Police did not reveal any more details about their raid, the Police also did not clarify whether or not they would be questioning the top officials of FAM for their investigation.
But the President of the FAM Bassam Adeel Jaleel said that he would talk about the allegations once the investigation is wrapped up.
The Prosecutor General's Office had said that Maldives is a country that has fostered relationships with many global organizations and that it is vital that the integrity of government organizations is always maintained as it pertains to the country's interest as a whole.
The Office continued that it has asked the Police to conduct an investigation into the allegations of FAM exploiting funds and if the FAM has committed crimes like embezzlement, theft, and money laundering.
The FAM's debt has ballooned over the years and there have been reports that the organization has been unable to pay their administrative staff as well as the former national team coach along with his coaching team and some national team players.
But FAM has denied these reports.
