Transitional Spokesperson Mohamed Firuzul Abdullah Haleel says President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has requested State Trading Organization STO to halt signing an agreement with an Indian company about providing medicine.
Speaking at a news conference today, Firuzul said that the Transitional Committees had found that STO was trying to sign an agreement with Indian company from Tamil Nadu to provide medicine and other medical supplies to the Maldives.
Firuzul said that as this relates to an essential service provided to the public, President-elect Muizzu requests that such an important agreement not be signed during the transitional period.
But at an earlier Press Conference, the Transitional Spokesperson had said that if the country's health system remains as it is, healthcare facilities maybe forced to halt some services by the middle of next month.
He had said that in previous years, the country orders consummables twice a year and this year it has only ordered these much needed items only once with just two months left in the year.
Firuzul said these consummables were not ordered due to financial logistics.
