MPs from the ruling MDP have called on Fenaka to pay what it owes to Small and Medium enterprises but also defend the actions of the Utility Company.
MP for Maduvari Constituency Adam Shareef Umar submitted a resolution calling on Fenaka to pay the SMEs and for an audit of the company last April.
The debate on the resolution was held today in the parliament today and most of the MPs aimed criticism at Fenaka for its inability to pay its bills. However, some of the MPs from MDP highlighted what Fenaka has done under this government and defended the utility company.
MP for Hulhumale Constituency MP Ali Niyaz said that Fenaka received income in two ways and that one way was from the payment for services given to the public while the other way was from subsidies from the government.
Continuing in this regard, Niyaz said that an assessment should be made to see how much Fenaka received and how much it received in bills paid for the services provided to its customers.
He went on to say that after the minimum wage was introduced, MVR 15 million was added to the MVR 35 million which was issued as employment salaries, and that this impacted company expenditures.
MP Niyaz said this was the reason Fenaka withheld its payment to its suppliers.
MDP PG Leader MP for Hithadhoo Uthuru Constituency Mohamed Aslam also indicated that Fenaka must pay what it owes to its suppliers but went on to highlight what the company has achieved in the past five years.
MP Aslam said that the company's debt has been accumulating since the last regime and that the current government was not solely responsible for the debt.
