President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu says the unity government of PPM and PNC would give the highest priority to upholding Islamic values and Maldivian nationalism during its reign.

He made the remarks during a statement marking the anniversary of the day the Maldives embraced Islam.

Muizzu said that in three years it would 9 centuries since the Maldives embraced Islam and the country embracing Islam was the most significant event in its history.

He said in the following year, the Maldives have remained a 100 percent Muslim country and have shown the world a great example.

Noting that the world today poses ideological and economic challenges, Muizzu said that all Maldivians want to face these challenges by giving the highest priority to safeguarding Maldivian interests above all.

The President-elect said that the core of vital values, rich traditions, and unity was Islam and highlighted that the PPM/PNC government that comes into power on the 17th of November would give the highest priority to upholding the values of Islam and nationalism.

The Maldives commemorates the day we embraced Islam annually on the 2nd of Rabiʽ al-Akhir as per the Islamic Calendar.
