PNC Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has won the Presidential Election in a major victory against the incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Muizzu is leading President Solih with a difference of 16,709 votes in his favor. With 550 out of the 586 ballot boxes now counted, Muizzu has secured more than 117,000.

President Solih has so far received 100,017 votes.

This means Muizzu has now won 53.9 percent of the votes and President Solih received 46.0 percent of the vote.

Elections Commission said earlier that more than 86 percent of the voters had cast their votes in today's election.
