Vice President of the Elections Commission Ismail Habeeb has confirmed that the official who was accused of marking ballot paper in Laamu Atoll Fonadhoo has been removed from duty and moved to another post.

Voting was suspended in Fonadhoo after the MP for the Constituency Moosa Siraj revealed that three ballot papers issued for Ballot Box number 3 of the island were marked.

He further accused that the marked ballot papers were issued to voters who were more inclined to vote for PNC Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He urged all to be vigilant of such trickery to increase invalid votes.

The Opposition said that it had submitted the issue to the Elections Commission and that it would proceed with lodging an official complaint too.

Speaking to 'The Press' Vice President of the Elections Commission said that voting was temporarily suspended in Fonadhoo but that voting has now resumed.

Habeeb said that the Commission would further investigate the incident and the accused official has now been removed from the post and changed to another post.
