Former President Abdullah Yameen, who is currently serving an 11-year jail sentence, has cast his vote in the Presidential Run-Off being held today.

Yameen who is serving his time at the Maafushi jail cast his vote to one of the ballot boxes kept at the prison.

He did not register to vote in the first round of the Presidential Election in which 8 candidates contested.

PNC Candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and MDP Candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih secured the most votes in the first round and are today competing head-to-head in the Run-Off.

Yameen was convicted of money laundering and accepting bribes in December of last year and was jailed for the second time in the last five years in relation to the MMPRC Scandal.

The Supreme Court vacated his first conviction back in November of 2021. But he is facing additional charges in another case as well as appeal proceedings of the conviction for which he is now serving time.
