Police say an elderly man has been tied up and robbed at his home in Maradhoo of Addu City today

Police said that they received the report of the incident around 06:12 am in the morning and that a suspect had entered the house of the victim in Maradhoo and tied up the 81-year-old.

Police also said that the elderly man who was a local was robbed after being tied up at his home.

They further said that the man had tried to get free of his bindings and ended up injuring his forearms in the process. They also said that the victim was taken to Addu Equatorial hospital for treatment.

Photos on social media showed the victim of the harrowing ordeal with deep injuries on his forearms as well as minor cuts on his face.

Police said that they arrested a suspect in relation to the case and that the individual was a 50-year-old local man. Police refrained from revealing other key details of the case including what was stolen from the elderly man's house.

Police added that they were further investigating the case.
