Maldives Correctional Services says it has again extended the permit given to former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb who is serving a 20-year jail sentence in relation to the MMPRC scandal.
This is 3rd time the Correctional Services has extended the permit issued to Adeeb to go abroad for medical purposes as he must do diagnostic tests that are not available in the Maldives.
His second permit expired last Friday and he requested an extension from the Correctional Services and it said that the request was granted after reviewing the documents the former Vice President had submitted.
The new permit expires on the 1st of October.
He first departed for Singapore following a 10-day permit from the Authorities to conduct diagnostic tests unavailable in the Maldives last July.
Though Adeeb initially departed to Singapore, it is unclear whether he is still in the country. But the Correctional Services had said that it would continue to monitor his movements along with the Police.
Adeeb was recently admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Emergency Services and his party Maldives Third-way Democrats MTD stated that Adeeb is suffering from a serious and life-threatening medical condition related to neurology.
It further said that this diagnosis was made after his prolonged period of being locked up in solitary confinement from 2015 to 2018 in a cell locked for 24 hours for three years, against all International conversations and Maldivian laws that classify such treatment as inhumane.
