President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says the country's biggest opposition party PPM not competing in the September Presidential elections is a disservice to its members and the whole nation.

He made the comments at a campaign rally in Dhaalu Meedhoo during his visit to the island today.

President Solih said that competitive political activities can only be held when all the parties work together in a fierce manner.

The President noted that PPM is currently working to boycott the elections and that the party is being seen as a party that protects the interest of just one person and one that revolves around just one person.

President Solih mentioned that MDP too has ridden this wave and up until 2018 the party operated in this manner and had only overcome the practice with the advice and help from the party leadership.

He described PPM as a competitive party and called on the party to stop standing behind one person and field their own candidate for the elections.

The President made the call while PPM's sister Party PNC fielded their own candidate for the September elections.

PNC Candidate Male' City Mayor Mohamed Muizzu filed his candidacy earlier today and the Elections Commission has now verified his application.

PPM's leadership has also endorse Muizzu's candidacy including leader Abdullah Yameen.
