Maldives Democratic Party MDP files the Presidential Candidacy of its candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
President's Election Agent MP for Kinbidhoo Constituency Mohamed Nashiz submitted the candidacy form to the Commission and the President of the Elections Commission Fuwad Thaufeeq accepted the form.
Under the law, the Commission is obligated to accept or reject the form within 48 hours after the submission but Vice President of the Commission Ismail Habeeb said that in this election, the Commission members agreed to inform potential candidates within 24 hours of their submission.
The main opposition party PPM submitted its candidacy form last week but the Commission rejected the form as its candidate former President Abdullah Yameen remains in jail serving an 11-year jail sentence.
Though Yameen contested the decision at the Supreme Court, the country's top Court today ruled that Yameen cannot compete in the election.
Other candidates competing in the Election are expected to submit their candidacy today as the deadline for candidacy ends tomorrow.
