Presidential Candidate of PNC Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu picks the MP for Faresmaathoda Constituency Hussain Mohamed Latheef as his running mate for the September Presidential Election.

.Last Thursday PNC's senate decided to field Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as its Presidential Candidate for the elections after he joined the party from PPM on the same day.

Muizzu competed in a hastily arranged vote against the MP for Maduvaree Constituency Adam Shareef Umar and won by just two votes.

In a tweet today, Muizzu said that God willing PPM's candidate and former President Abdullah Yameen would be allowed to compete in the elections.

He further said that in the event that Yameen is unable to compete, PNC's senate has chosen Muizzu as a 'backup' candidate for the opposition and that Yameen himself backed his candidacy.

The Mayor said even as a backup candidate, it is his responsibility to compile his candidacy application and with this in mind, he has chosen MP Hussein as his running mate.

Muizzu described his running mate as a young, educated, and capable individual.

He said that his prayer was that Yameen is able to file his candidacy before the 7th August deadline and he did not have to file his backup candidacy.
