The main Opposition party PPM decides to intervene in the case filed at the Supreme Court by former President Abdullah Yameen over the Election's Commission decision to reject his Presidential Candidacy.
PPM said that it decided to intervene in the case to protect the rights of Yameen and all those who support him.
It has been reported that the Attorney General's Office has also decided to intervene in the case upon instruction from the Top Court.
The Supreme Court scheduled its preliminary hearing of the case for tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 pm.
The Court ordered the Elections Commission to present its reasoning for the rejection in writing and the Election Commission said that it would do so before 3 pm today.
It is yet unclear whether the Commission has met its legal obligation.
The Commission cited Article 109 (F) of the Constitution which states that an individual who puts forth candidacy for the Presidential Elections must not have been convicted of a criminal offense and sentenced to a term of more than twelve months.
Yameen is currently serving a jail sentence of 11 years after being convicted of money laundering and bribery last year with his appeal process at the High Court so far unsuccessful.
