Leader of Maldives Democratic Alliance MDA Ahmed Siyam Mohamed says he has not interest in becoming the running mate for MDP candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ahead of the September Presidential elections.
He said this in his comments to the media last night after arriving back in Maldives from Singapore to attend a court hearing pertaining to his company Sun Travels.
In an answer to a question by one of the local journalists, Siyam, who is also the MP for Meedhoo Constituency, said that he had no interest in becoming the running mate for President Solih but if his hands are forced, he would consider competing alongside the President.
However, Siyam did not give details on what situations his hands would be forced for him to accept being President Solih's running mate. But MDA had made a coalition with MDP for the September Elections.
President Solih alluded last week that the one headache he currently had was choosing a running mate for the election and that he might consider choosing from within the coalition.
Over the weekend, his last running mate and current Vice President Faisal Naseem expressed interest in once again standing as his running mate if the President wished.
