Former MP for Thimarafushi Constituency Mohamed Musthafa says the most capable individual to become the next President and head the government is JP Candidate Gasim Ibrahim.
In a tweet, the former MP listed his reasons to label Gasim, who is also the MP for the Maamigili constituency, as the next President.
Musthafa said that Gasim had enough experience to head a government and that he does not hold grudges against those who have tricked him before.
He noted that Gasim had held the post of MMA Governor, Finance Minister as well as the Speaker of the Parliament.
He added that God willing, this was MP Gasim's turn.
This comes after the leaders of three opposition parties met yesterday and agreed to field one candidate to represent all their interests in the upcoming election.
The leader includes JP leader Gasim along with MNP President Colonel Rtd Mohamed Nazim and from the newly formed Democrats, former MDP President Mohamed Nasheed.
After the meeting, Gasim said that the formula to field a common candidate might work and that they would hold discussions with PPM over the matter.
PPM later said that they were only open to the idea if its candidate former President Abdullah Yameen is chosen as the common candidate.
