President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says he hopes the developmental changes being brought to Vaavu Atoll Rakeedhoo would bolster the island's population and bring back those who moved away from the island back to their homes.

The President made the comments on his trip to the island during his tour of Meemu Atoll and Vaavu Atoll for the Presidential Campaign.

Speaking to his supporters on the island, President Solih said that only 63 people out of the island's 369 population are currently living on the island and that this was relatively small.

President Solih said that this was not without reason as it was impossible to get a good education or get good medical service from the island and that it is even difficult to get on and off the island.

He noted that even though the island's harbor has been further developed, the infrastructure needs to be improved.

The President pledged that the island's water and sanitation system would be up and running by the end of his term and that a school would be opened on the island with teachers brought in from other islands.

He further said that the RTL ferry service would soon begin in Vaavu Atoll and that it would make it easier to go on daily trips within the Atoll.
