The Elections Commission has met with the ambassadors of five countries and representatives of five organizations to hold discussions on ensuring fair and transparent Presidential Elections.
Speaking on behalf of the Commission, Vice President Ismail Habeeb said the Commission has met with the representatives of several countries and organizations in the last few months following the Commission's open invitation to the international community to observe the elections.
The Commission met with the UN, EU, Commonwealth, US AID, and IFPS, as well as ambassadors from Australia, India, Canada, Japan, and the UK.
Habeeb said mainly the talks focused on four points of discussion and that they include the Commission's preparations for the upcoming election as well as the invitation to observe the election.
He further said that talks were held on ensuring fair and transparent elections and providing technical support for the election.
Habeeb also noted that the Commonwealth inquired about 'hopeful' candidates for the September elections but he did not give details about these candidates.
The Vice President of the Commission said that having many foreign observers is encouraging to ensure fair elections and that the discussions were centered on holding transparent polls.
