Former President Abdullah Yameen's appeal trial for the Vaavu. Aarah case has been temporarily halted as the Judges presiding over the case go on annual leave.
Yameen was sentenced to 11 years in jail after he was convicted of money laundering and accepting bribes in the lease of Aaarah by the Criminal Court last year.
His defense team filed an appeal case at the High Court earlier this year and the court has been holding hearing on the case but yesterday's hearing was canceled as one of the Judges on the presiding bench Judge Huzaifa Mohamed was on family leave.
Sources have said another Judge presiding over the case Mohamed Saleem is expected to go on leave on the 15th of this month.
It is being reported that even if Judge Huzaifa is present for the hearings the case cannot be taken forward as all hearings must be held in the presence of all three Judges presiding over the case.
Leaders of the opposition coalition had gone to the High Court today over the temporary halt in court proceedings and said that they were assured that the hearings would be scheduled as soon as the Judge on family leave comes back.
The Opposition Coalition said that it trusts the High Court and that there were high chances of many trying to influence the Court. It further said that seeing the actions of the Government it is highly likely that it has been trying to influence the court via the Judicia Service Commission.
