Maldives Transport and Contracting Company MTCC brings in a dredger that can dredge one hectare per day to expedite land reclamation projects.
MTCC brought in the Belgian dredger, Philippo Brunelleschi, to the Maldives early yesterday.
The dredger will start dredging today.
The dredger is 27.5 meters wide and 142.5 meters long and has a hopper capacity of 11,300 cubic meters.
The dredger will work on nine islands including;
- Ha. Ihavandhoo
- Sh. Komandoo
- Aa. Ukalhas
- Aa. Bodufolhudhoo
- R. Ungoofaaru
- M. Dhiggaru
- F. Feealee
- K. Dhiffushi
- K. Gulhi
The "Philippo Brunelleschi" can in one day dredge an area that takes MTCC's current biggest dredger 4 days to dredge.
Hence dredging projects are expected to be accelerated with the new vessel/
The dredger will be used for the first time. Ihavandhoo following which it would be used in Komandhoo. The dredger "Filippo Brunelleschi" was built in 2003 and can dredge one hectare per day.
