President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih vows the government would bring back Maldivians stranded in war-torn Syria before the end of next month.
He made the remarks while speaking at a campaign rally in Shaviyani Atoll Komandoo.
President Solih noted that previous administrations denied that there was no extremist ideology in the Maldives but that the statistics now show that more than 70 Maldivians have died in Syria have gone to the country to fight in its civil war.
President said that several Maldivian mothers and children have been left stranded in the country and that the government is working to bring them back by the end of next month.
He further said that the most important pillar of Maldivian society was Islam and that the true practices and values of the religion must be taught to the younger generation.
President also said that the younger generation are apt users of the technology and that more should be done to let them showcase their talents and skills.
