A total of 227 drug bullets have been removed from 4 Pakistani nationals who were arrested from the Velanaa International Airport for attempting to smuggle narcotics into the Maldives.

The four were arrested at the airport last week and the suspects include 3 men and a man.

Police submitted evidence against the four during their 2nd remand hearing.

Police evidence showed that all four had swallowed drug bullets and that the four ingested a total of around 227 bullets.

In a further break down it was reported that;

  • Misbaah Bibi (female), 32: passed 10 drug bullets weighing 157g.
  • Naeem Thoriq (male), 32: passed 75 drug bullets weighing 909g
  • Havaar Thoriq (male), 36: passed 62 drug bullets weighing 756.3g
  • Shahzad Hussain(male), passed 80 drug bullets weighing 1.068 kg

Additional evidence submitted against them said that all four have confessed to their crimes.

The Criminal Court said that the crime committed involved several people working in tandem and that the nature of the crime poses a threat to society.

It sentenced the 4 suspects each to 30 additional days under remand custody.

Drug traffickers use individuals popularly known as 'drug mules', the victims are made to swallow balloons containing illicit drugs and are then transported across borders.
