The proposal to take an entrance fee from foreigners who visit Sultan Park and Lonuziaarai Park was submitted to the Council at the meeting held today.

While the matter was discussed at the meeting today, the Council decided to take two different fees from tourists who visit these parks and expatriate workers living in the Maldives.

Speaking at the meeting today, Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Miuzzu said that in most countries foreigners are charged an entrance fee when visiting parks and public places and that this is not discrimination against foreigners.

The Council said that the park entrance fee for foreigners will be implemented starting 15th of next month and that it would be announcing the ticket prices in the next two weeks.

During former President Abdullah Yameen's tenure, an entrance fee was charged to foreigners who visit Sultan Park formerly known as Rasrani Park. But this practice was overturned when the government changed.
