Urbanco says it has not given any housing properties to any of its staff outside of the rules and regulations established and said that a list that says otherwise is fake.
Its denial came as a list emerged on social media that included the names of employees who won housing units after Urbanco allowed its staff to sell units from the Mixed Residential Unit built in Hulhumale by a private owner.
As per the list, 10 of the recipients are board members while 7 top officials and 15 director-level employees are also named as recipients of the housing units.
Members of the public are expressing their concern, especially as the Board of Directors would change in November of this year, and that they are using their political power illegally. Others have called on relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
In response to the allegation, Urbanco issued a statement today in which it said that the mixed residential housing units were built by a private developer and the units allocated for Urbanco were in exchange for the land plot it has given for the development.
Urbanco said that these housing units were released under Staff Housing Scheme but with some staff giving their housing units away and with others not eligible for the units, 34 housing units remained unassigned.
Urbanco said that these 34 housing units have been open for application and more than 800 employees have applied for these housing units. It further said that the company was compiling guidelines on how to assign these units and that the work would be conducted via the company portal.
Urbanco assured that its internal audit would monitor such work and that it would readily share information with other entities if they request such data. The company previously known as HDC said that it would never violate the rights of anyone.
