Authorities are battling a fire that broke out at a godown in Maafanu ward of Male' near Thaiba mosque.
Reports say that authorities have now brought the fire under control but have not been able to extinguish it. No injuries have been reported yet. Local reports also say that the godown is used to store chemicals and fertilizers.
The godown is next to the Elections Commission headquarters, where the candidates of the upcoming local council elections and Women Development Committee election were signing the final voters' list. The Commission said that they have suspended the signings and will continue them at a later date.
Officials from the Commission were later seen moving the equipment from the office building as MNDF Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire in the godown next door.
This is the second fire reported in Male' today.
Earlier, MNDF battled a blaze that broke out at an abandoned house in Galolhu Ward of Male'. MNDF said that the fire was reported around 10:00 in the morning and was fully extinguished around 2:00 in the afternoon.
