Commissioner of Elections Fuwad Thaufeeq says the Commission has asked the Finance Ministry to issue funds to the Political parties that met the criteria stated in the law.

The law on Political Parties stipulates that the government must issue 0.01 percent of its state budget to Political parties with 10,000 or more members.

This year MVR 36,896,088 has been earmarked for political parties.

Six political parties operating in the country have met the criteria set by the law. They are MDP, PPM, Jumhooree Party, MDA, MNP, and Adhaalath Party.

The Commissioner said that he has asked the Finance Ministry to issue funds to all of these parties except for MNP and that MNP's fund request is pending because of some missing information.

The majority ruling party and the largest political party MDP will receive the biggest portion of the allocated budget. MDP is set to receive MVR 14,212,790.92 while the second biggest party PPM would receive 9,544,204.46.

Meanwhile, JP is set to receive MVR 5,680,521.16 and MDA will receive 2,591,106.
