Police have sent a special team from its Serious and Organized Crime depart has left for Noonu Atoll Manadhoo after a woman was found dead in her house on the island.

Police said yesterday that 62-year-old Naeema Moosa from Annarumaage was found dead in her home yesterday after her family had reported that she had not been seen since Thursday.

Authorities had broken down the doors of her house and found her dead in her own room.

The Press has come to know that the victim has suffered several stab wounds from a sharp object and that she was nearly decapitated.

Speaking about the matter, President of Manadhoo Council Abdul Rahman said that Naeema has children but they were settled in the capital Male'.

He said that Naeema was a cleaner for the Island Council and that she had been regularly working her shifts.

Rahman said that Naeema had family on the island and her colleagues had visited her house after she did not show up for her duty on Thursday but her no contact with her then.

He said that her family reported to the Police yesterday after they had no contact with her yesterday as well. He added that Police had not informed the Council if Naeema had received any injuries.

The Press understands that there has been talk of transferring the victim's body to Male' but are unable to confirm as Police have not been forthcoming in providing information about the case.
