Former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munavvar has announced his candidacy for the Presidential Elections scheduled for September of this year.

He made the announcement via Social Media and shared his campaign logo on Twitter. He opened his campaign office for the election earlier this morning.

Speaking to 'The Press about his candidacy, Dr. Munavvar said that this administration has not eased the concerns of the people. He pointed out that many are worried that the country is compromising its freedom and the government has failed to make its stance on this clear.

He further said that the state debt has risen to concerning levels and questioned how the government is managings it's debt obligation while carrying out different projects. Dr. Munavvar also added that there is a high risk that the value of the Maldivian currency could fall drastically.

Dr. Munavvar noted that he would be competing in the elections to protect the country's security and ensure its freedom.

He confirmed that he would be competing in the election as an independent candidate.

Dr. Munavvar joins MDP coalition candidate and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, PPM's candidate and former President Abdullah Yameen, former Home Minister Umar Naseer and MNP Leader Colonel Retired Mohamed Nazim.
