Maldives Water and Sewerage Company MWSC say due to a technical issue with the water distribution system at K. Thilafushi, water service on the island has been disrupted.

Speaking to 'The Press, Managing Director at MWSC Hassan Shaahu said that there were two temporary water storage tanks in Thilafushi and that one of the tanks broke earlier this morning.

He said that the MWSC team had rushed to the tank when it was reported that it had burst and when the company checked the CCTV footage, it was discovered that the tank had burst suddenly.

Shaah also said that this tank was an old model with canvas lining inside and tin sheets wrapped outside. He added that the tank had burst from a spot with wear and tear.

Shaahu assured that the second water storage tank in Thilafushi remains fully intact and that the company was working to resolve the issue by this afternoon.

Thilafushi is a major industrial zone with many workers on sites around the clock and the water disruption is likely to halt these work.
