MDP's Parliamentary Group Leader MP Mohamed Aslam says he is disheartened that Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed had decided not to stand with the Party's Presidential candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
He made these remarks while speaking at the special rally held last night to hand over the ticket to President Solih.
MP Aslam said that MDP's ideologies and principles are clearly written in its constitution in black and white and that there is no other ideology within the party.
He further said that it is important to stop talking about a hidden ideology within the party and work together.
MP Asalam was referring to Speaker Nasheed gathering support within the party for his 'Fikurehge Dhirun' (rebirth of an ideology) campaign.
MDP's PG Leader also said that the best thing anyone can do for the Maldives right now is to make sure MDP remains in power and to elect President Solih for a second term.
He implored the Speaker to join those backing the party's Presidential Candidate and said that he was saddened by Nasheed's absence.
Nasheed was heavily defeated in the MDP Presidential Primary held last month by President Solih who won the candidacy with a margin of nearly 9,000 votes.
