President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says this is the time for all the members of MDP to unite and work to secure the Presidential Elections scheduled for later this year.
His call for unity comes after he secured the MDP Presidential Candidcay after winning the MDP Primary held yesterday. He defeated President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed by a huge margin in the internal elections.
In a tweet today, President Solih thanked the MDP members who supported and voted for him in the Party primary. He went on to say that this is the time for the whole party to unite and move forward to secure the Presidential Elections tabled for September of this year.
While the President has spoken of party unity before and after winning the Presidential Primary, his opponent Nasheed has remained silent over the matter of working together to secure another presidency for MDP.
Nasheed have not conceded the Primary even though the party has announced the temporary results of the election.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih beat the Speaker of the Parliament Nasheed by a margin of 8,941 votes. President Solih secured 61 percent of the total votes which amounts to 24,572 Speaker Nasheed received 39 percent of the total votes counted which amounts to 15,631.
