President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih says he will secure the MDP Primary with a double-digital victory over his opponent Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking to reporters after casting his vote today, President Solih he hoped to secure a landslide victory in today's primary.

Highlighting that Nasheed's camp has accused there would be election fraud in the Primary today, President said that such ill practices would not be done by MDP and that the party has not seen such acts in previous elections.

The President said that today's internal election is an important process for the country's democracy. He further said that he hoped that the voting process would be completed peacefully and that the whole party would be united to secure the Presidential election later this year.

MDP is holding its first competitive primary elections for the first time with the Party of President Nasheed and the sitting President of the country competing in the internal elections.

Ballot boxes have been placed across the country with thousands of MDP members expected to vote to choose their preferred Presidential candidate for the election scheduled for this September.
