Paediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal expresses concern over the high number of patients being admitted to the Paediatric ward in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital IGMH and the lack of doctors and nurses to provide services to them.

In a tweet, Dr. Faisal said that the hospital had 60 patients admitted under pediatrics and that 8 were on a mechanical ventilator.

He further said that the recruitment of doctors and nurses needs to be faster than usual civil service pathways.

Dr. Faisal noted that there is a growing need to decentralize the services, while also supporting the high centers in human resources, drugs, and equipment.

In an interview with 'The Press' before, Dr. Faisal said that the number of preterm births has increased and that premature newborns must spend a few days at the hospital.

He said that it might take 23 to 24 days before the baby is discharged and the biggest issue is the lack of nurses at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit NICU.

He added that each nurse must at one time care for 4 newborns.
