The Criminal Court has given a 3-month jail sentence to a man who broke into the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority head office and stole MVR 25 from it.
The man from Addu City broke into the MIRA office on August 9th, 2021, by breaking a window. The State charged the defendant with two offenses including trespassing and damaging property.
The Defendant pled guilty to the charges and said that he had been intoxicated when he committed the crime.
As the Defendant confessed to the crime during the Preliminary hearing, his trial was conducted via the fast-track. The Criminal Court sentenced him to 4 months and 15 days in jail.
His final sentence comes down to 3 months and 18 days after time served was cut.
