Maldives Airports Company Ltd MACL says Velaana International Airport set a new record of runway movement on the 22nd of December since the opening of the new runway.
In a tweet, MACL said that there were 228 runway movements on that day and that this includes 104 international flights. MACL further said that there were 104 domestic flights on that day along with 20 general aviation activities at the airport.
The new runway was opened last October and it is 3,400 meters long and 65 meters wide.
MAC had said then that with the opening of this runway, the number of planes landing and departing the main international airport will increase from eight to 20 per hour, which will resolve flight delays by reducing the time required to vacate the runway.
