The Parliament session has ended again without putting the Tax Act Amendment Bill to a vote for a second day.

The government has been pushing the Tax Act Amendment Bill that would see a hike in taxes and the government has said that this was necessary to maintain the economic outlook of the country.

The controversial bill has divided the majority ruling party MDP itself with several key MPs voicing their opposition to the bill on several occasions.

At today's session, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed ended the session after taking a vote on whether or not to accept the resolution on the Chagos issue submitted by MP Dhagethi Mohamed Nazim.

While the resolution asked for clarification from the government on whether or not it has changed its stance on the issue, the Parliament voted to throw out the resolution.

A total of 42 MP voted against the resolution while 30 MP voted in support of the resolution with one member abstaining from voting.
