Police say they have suspended one of its officers who was arrested during an anti-drug operation carried out in Male' and Hulhumale' during the weekend.
Police arrested 12 individuals during its operation and sources have said that this includes a police officer who worked in the Drug Enforcement Department to keep watch over the drug stock at the police.
Confirming that a police officer was indeed arrested, Police said that the officer in question has now been suspended from his duties.
Police said that they were now investigating both the criminal and administrative allegations made against the officer.
They assured that Police would take action against any individuals arrested during its operation regardless of whether it was an officer from the DED.
Police further assured that even though the officer was from the DED, the narcotics taken under police custody would not be allowed to be misused by that officer or another other officers.
The 12 individuals arrested in the operation include 8 men and 4 women. The women include two film stars in the local movie industry.
