Maldives Water and Sewerage Company have launched its premium bottled water 'Aro'.

The premium bottled water was launched at a ceremony held at Crossroads Maldives last night by Transport Minister Aishath Nahula.

MWSC said that the premium water bottled in glass bottles would target the tourism sector.

Speaking at the ceremony, MWSC Managing Director Hassan Shahu said while the Maldivian tourism industry is growing every day, one way to keep it expanding in a sustainable way was to introduce and promote local products into the sector.

Shah further said that to see Maldivian brands compete shoulder to shoulder with international brands would further bolster the tourism sector and expand its benefits to the Maldivian people.

MWSC said that the premium bottled water would be available in 1 liter and 500 ml bottles and that the bottles would have drawings that would depict the natural beauty of the country.

It also said that the packaging of the water moves towards the 'zero-plastic' policy and that it was a step in the right direction.

"Aro" is the first premium quality bottled water produced in the Maldives and MWSC said that it plans to introduce similar products in the future.
