Health Protection Agency HPA says 90 new cases of COVID-19 were reported across the country in the last 7 days.

HPA said in its weekly COVID update that between 30th October to 5th November, 43 new cases were reported in the Greater Male area, two new cases in Atolls, and 45 cases in other areas including resorts and industrial islands.

This week's number grew by just 6 cases as HPA had reported 84 new cases in the country between 23rd October to 29th October.

The Agency noted that this takes the total number of COVID cases reported in the country since March 2020 to 185,454.

HPA also said that in the last 7 days, there have been 25 new hospital admissions. Last week HPA reported 16 new hospital admissions across the country.

The Agency confirmed that one individual had died of COVID-19 in the last 7 days in the Maldives with the total COVID deaths now at 309.

The spread of the illness has been largely controlled in the Maldives as more of the population received their inoculation against the pandemic.

HPA confirmed today that 85 percent of the vaccine-eligible population (those above 12) have now received their 2nd dose of the vaccine while 37 percent of the vaccine-eligible population have received their 1st booster dose.

Only 0.3 percent of the vaccine-eligible population have received their 2nd booster dose against the pandemic.
