The body of Abdullah Rasheed is scheduled to be brought back today after it was sent abroad for an autopsy.
Rasheed had died while under police custody after they had arrested him in a drug operation in Gaafu Dhaalu Hoadehdhoo on the 25th of last month.
He had reportedly complained of chest pains and had signs of suffering a fit before being taken to the Health Center in Madaveli of the same Atoll. He was declared dead on arrival.
The deceased family confirmed to 'The Press' that his body is expected to arrive back in Male' around 1:30 pm. His family said that his funeral would be held after Maghrib prayers today.
Rasheed's body was sent for an autopsy on the 31st of last month after his family had voiced their opposition to the procedure and repeatedly asked the police to hand over the body.
After being denied their request, Rasheed's family then turned to the Civil Court to stop the autopsy but the Court ruled that the Police had the right to perform an autopsy on any individual that they think died of another person's neglect.
While the man died under Police custody, Police have said that they have shared the details of the incident with the National Integrity Commission and the Human Rights Commission to help them conduct their independent investigations into the matter.
